Green Mortgages for Energy Saving Homes

Low interest loans and mortgages are to become available by the Government in a bid to introduce more solar panels, wind turbines, double glazing and insultation into homes around the UK.

The scheme, which will be announced next week under the Government’s renewable energy strategy, could transform landscapes as Ministers try to encourage homeowners to reduce their carbon emissions.

The aim is to cut the 150m tonnes of carbon dioxide carbon emissions generated by Britain’s 26m homes to under 30m tonnes by 2050. The good intentions could result in utility bills going up by around £200 per annum as more money needs to be spend on renewable sources.
