Many people have problems with their neighbours which can have a detrimental effect when making home improvements. They can at times be a little noisy, cause a little dust and irritate neighbours which you do not get on with anyway.

You then have a little more leeway to ask for favours or to explain what is going on. If projects run late or are delayed it can make it a lot easier to apologise to your neighbours and they are likely to understand.
